The Next 50 Years

We must be willing to let go of the life we have planned,
so as to have the life that is waiting for us.

~ Joseph Campbell

Today I turn 50. I think it’s cool that I’ve lived for half a century. I always look forward to milestone birthdays, and this one is no different. I’m not going to reflect on past life, but rather focus on my future life – the next 50 years.

The next 50 years I’ll take more risks and climb more mountains.

The next 50 years I’ll listen to my heart more than my head.

The next 50 years I’ll break more rules and color outside the lines.

The next 50 years I’ll spend more time in nature and listen to the whisper of trees.

The next 50 years I’ll share more of myself with others, and build friendships along the way.

The next 50 years I’ll cry when I’m sad, I’ll cry when I’m happy, and cry just for the hell of it.

The next 50 years I’ll feel more bliss, love, and contentment wherever life takes me.

The next 50 years I’ll remember to dance in the rain, and stomp in the puddles.

The next 50 years I’ll sing at the top of my lungs and feel life’s music around me.

The next 50 years I’ll connect with my family more and make sure they know I love them.

The next 50 years I’ll wear clothes that I love and feel complete and whole in my body.

The next 50 years I’ll relearn how to play, and laugh just because.

The next 50 years I’ll dance under the moon and find my life’s rhythm.

The next 50 years I’ll hug more trees, grow more flowers and play in the dirt.

The next 50 years I’ll travel to faraway lands, where my heart feels called to explore.

The next 50 years I’ll know what I mean to be brave and invite in more adventure.

The next 50 years, I’ll go within more and meditate on life’s questions.

The next 50 years I’ll move my body for fun, escaping a reality of self-doubt.

The next 50 years I’ll use my imagination to create a life of purpose.

The next 50 years I’ll bring forth my creative nature, and believe it can sustain me.

The next 50 years I’ll love with my whole heart, and allow others to love me back.

The next 50 years I’ll teach others how to live with their whole spirit to dig deep to find who we truly are.

The next 50 years I’ll learn how to be me, the real me. Unafraid.
